GAZA/CAIRO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian sources said Monday that the first group of sick and wounded Palestinians left the Gaza Strip for Egypt through the Rafah crossing, after the key border crossing reopened on a trial basis a day earlier.
The sources said five patients, accompanied by 10 relatives or caregivers, crossed from southern Gaza into Egypt. They added that none of those expected to enter Gaza from Egypt had crossed back into the enclave so far.
Egypt's Al-Qahera News, citing Egyptian officials, confirmed the transfer. The move came hours after Rafah partially reopened for the first time in more than a year and a half, under the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire.
