CAIRO, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The 54th edition of Cairo International Book Fair opened on Wednesday and will last until Feb. 6, according to a statement published by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
The country's major annual book fair brings together more than 1,000 Egyptian and foreign publishers and participants from about 50 countries.
Jordan is the guest of honor, while the late Egyptian poet Salah Jaheen is the personality of the year, said the statement.
As many as 500 cultural events will be held on the sidelines of the event, it added.
