ISTANBUL, May 4 (Xinhua) -- A Turkish delegation will pay a two-day visit to Egypt's capital Cairo on Wednesday for "political consultations," the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday.

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal and his Egyptian counterpart Hamdi Sanad Loza will co-chair the talks, the ministry said in a written statement.

"These exploratory discussions will focus on necessary steps that may lead toward the normalization of the relations between the two countries bilaterally and in the regional context," it noted.

The two countries have downgraded their diplomatic relations after Egypt's former President Mohamed Morsi was ousted in 2013.
