Australia's All Ordinaries jumps, stocks otherwise mixed

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - Stocks in Asia were mixed on Wednesday, as was the U.S. dollar.

The Australian market did best of all with the All Ordinaries index gaining 67.60 points or 1.11% to 6,146.90.

In New Zealand, the benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index rose 0.4% to 11,814.71.

Japanese stocks rose with the Nikkei 225 adding 20.64 points or 0.09% to 23,475.53.

In Hong Kong the Hang Seng closed down 7.13 points or 0.03% at 24,725.63.

China's Shanghai Composite closed 11.76 points or 0.36% lower at 3,283.92.

The euro was a touch higher at 1.1856 in the Asian session on Wednesday.

The British pound was a fraction lower at 1.2882.

The Japanese yen rose to 105.28. The Swiss franc advanced to 0.9070.

The Canadian dollar edged higher to 1.3177. The Australian dollar strengthened to 0.7319. The New Zealand dollar was in demand at 0.6731.
