TEHRAN (Tasnim) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi held talks in Cairo on Sunday with East Libya-based military commander Khalifa Haftar. - Other Media news - The talks dwelt on the latest developments in Libya, the official MENA news agency said, without giving details about when Haftar arrived in the Egyptian capital.

The Egyptian presidency has yet to issue an official statement about the talks, which came amid a military campaign launched by Haftar to capture the capital Tripoli, where the UN-backed unity government is based, Anadolu Agency reported.

Libya has remained beset by turmoil since 2011, when a bloody NATO-backed uprising led to the ouster and death of strongman Muammar Gaddafi after four decades in power.

Since then, the country's stark political divisions have yielded two rival seats of power: one in eastern Libya, with which Haftar is associated, and another in Tripoli, which enjoys the UN's support.
